10 Best PSP Go Games Of 2022

Slide up that screen; it’s time to check out the best PSP Go games of all time!

Hang on, what’s the difference between PSP and PSP Go games?

Well, the games are the same, but the way you play them isn’t. The PSP Go ditched the UMD drive and required players to download games instead.

That meant that there were less games available and you couldn’t just stick any-old disc. I guess that makes it easier to see why Sony released two different PS5 models – they’ve been pushing people to their online store for a long time now!

As you can imagine, the PSP Go didn’t prove as exciting with fans as Sony had initially hoped. The design was smaller and definitely different from the other models, opting a swish sliding screen that moved up to reveal buttons.

Still, it wasn’t enough to sway fans to upgrade.

You didn’t come here for a history lesson though; you came to see which the best games were that were available to download for the PSP GO.

Let’s kick off with Number 10!

Patapon 3 kickstarts our list of the best PSP Go games. It’s a classic, part of an iconic series, and I still don’t really understand what the heck is going on!

I suppose if you’re on the hunt for the best games like Pikmin and LittleBigPlanet, then this would definitely be up there as one of the greatest examples.

The Patapons can quickly get on your nerves, especially because their plight sticks in your head long after the console’s switched off.

Cross the Rainbow Bridge as you march your little soldiers along in time with the drum beats. I suppose the whole thing feels like Donkey Kong Jungle Beat mixed with Viewtiful Joe, which isn’t a bad cocktail!

Plow forwards to the groove as you get ever-closer to seven evil bosses. It’s much easier to figure out than the previous games and less of a mind-melder. If wacky is your bag, then you’ve lucked out big time!

Best PSP Go Games - Daxter PSP game case cover art

Daxter proves that he can more than hold his own in the gaming world without Jak in our next title.

Unless you’re a fan of the best Jak and Daxter games, then you probably won’t understand what’s going on here. Though to be honest, you should all be fans of this iconic duo, so I’m not too worries.

You can always take this Jak and Daxter crash course if you need to get all the info in a short amount of time too!

Armed with his bug exterminator, Daxter heads out on a mission of his own to find and rescue his compadre Jak.

Remember Gex – Enter The Gecko, one of the best N64 games of all time? Well, Daxter takes on that same feel, boasting levels with a Matrix, Lord of the Rings, and Indiana Jones feel!

Take your swatter all the way to a final showdown with the Krimson Guard, the end of a perfectly crafted storyline and a wholesome game oozing with Sony goodness.

Best PSP Go Games - Loco Roco 2 game case cover art PSP

Loco Roco 2 takes the 8th spot in this list of the best PSP Go games. It’s the sequel to the first Loco Roco game (go figure), dropping just 2 years after the first game sent us all loco!

Like the Patapon series and games like Lemmings, this is one of those games that anyone can pick up and have a go at no matter their age or ability.

And unlike some of the other games in the list below, it doesn’t matter whether you just pick it up and play for five minutes or sit down for an hour-long session. It’s just fun!

I imagine this game is what some people’s drug-induced panic attacks look like. It’s wild, weird, wacky, and wonderfully colourful from start to finish.

With new characters and exciting abilities to harness such as swimming and fitting into tiny crevices, you can expect a whole new level of madness to ensue!

Best PSP Go Games - Valklyria Chronicles II game case cover art PSP

Valkyria Chronicles II is up next, the PSP sequel of the epic PS3 title.

There were a lot of worries faces when Sega announced they were releasing a handheld sequel rather than a game for home consoles. Still, VC II was a rip-roaring success story; we should have put more trust into Sonic’s parents!

I love it when a sequel carries on from the moment the old game ends. Go back to the second European War of 1939. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to stop rebel forces from carrying out their horrific ethnic cleansing plan.

Anyone who loves the best Final Fantasy games but was disappointed Crisis Core wasn’t available for the PSP Go needs this title in their lives.

Add in a bit of Time Crisis-style gameplay and the cunning needed to win skirmishes in Fire Emblem, and you’ve got one heck of a title on your hands!

Relive the brilliant BLiTZ combat system and play as new classes with exciting abilities. Team based shoot-em-up RPG strategy games have never looked so good!

Best PSP Go Games - Syphon Filter Logan's Shadow game case cover art PSP

The 6th spot in our best PSP Go games goes to Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow. It looked and played like a home console title on a handheld console, way before the Switch was pulling this off as its signature move.

Sliding up that screen and jumping into some stealth shooting action felt so damn good. It’s one of the most immersive shooters for the PSP platform and a real thrilling game that leaves you on the edge of any seat.

Take Gabe Logan through some pretty hairy situations as you fire blindly around corners and stafe into danger pretty much constantly.

Like the Splinter Cell games, this is one where patience is just as powerful as going in all guns blazing. That doesn’t mean you wont end up breaking your PSP Go over your knee in a rage, however.

Hey, all the best games are sent to stress us out, right?

Best PSP Go Games - Secret Agent Clank game case cover art PSP

A robotic James Bond-looking lad that bears a strong resemblance to Clank… it has to be Secret Agent Clank!

Like Banjo & Kazooie, Jak & Daxter, and more recently Yooka & Laylee, Ratchet & Clank are one of the most famous gaming duos around. And, like Daxter, Clank fancied a run in the spotlight on his own.

This game might be a spin-off of the main Ratchet & Clank canon, but fans of the series will recognise famous cameos that appear as Clank progresses through the game.

Clank isn’t just in charge of solving puzzles anymore. He can move anywhere and do everything, pulling special items out of his tuxedo and taking part in sneaky rhythmic sections.

That’s right; all that Patapon 3 playing has finally payed off. Hit buttons to the beat to get Clank through certain areas unscathed. Those parts get seriously tense!

Don’t worry; Captain Qwark and Ratchet also appear as playable characters even though this is Clank’s story. It’s one of the best Ratchet and Clank games of all time and a perfect game for the PSP Go.

Best PSP Go Games - Castlevania The Dracula X Chronicles game case cover art PSP

Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles takes the 4th spot in our best PSP Go games compendium. It’s a bloodthirsty adventure that I guarantee you’ll be unable to put down once you get going.

If you loved Rondo of Blood, then this 2.5D remake for the PSP will blow your mind.

And yes, you’re back in control of Richter Belmont as you move through gothic levels whipping the forces of evil.

Do you have what it takes to save Richter’s beloved Annette and destroy Dracula, or will you sully the Belmont clan name forever?

There’s plenty of unlockable content to get your hands on as you move through the story too. That should put your mind off the fact that Dracula never really seems to die and keeps coming back again… and again… and again.

Best PSP Go Games - Tekken 6 game case cover art PSP

Tekken 6 packs a punch on the PSP and the PSP Go alike. Let’s face it; Tekken is the most famous and widely known fighting game series going, and 6 added so many cool features.

We’re talking stages with hidden areas you can break into and customisable characters.

Don’t forget the Rage system that sees players causing more damage with every hit they make too. It’s Tekken on steroids… as if it needed to be any more brutal!

The thing is, it’s the characters that make Tekken such a success, and all the greats have returned for Tekken 6.

Play as Nina Williams, Raven, Bryan Fury, and of course, Yoshimitsu!

Like Loco Roco 2, you can pick this game up and play a little without worrying about any consequences. Obviously, that’s where the similarities with Loco Roco stop!

Do you like to mash the PSP Go’s buttons or pull off calculated special moves? I’m more of the first one, but no matter how you play, this is definitely one of the best portable fighting games on any console!

Best PSP Go Games - Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker game case cover art PSP

We’re down to the last two titles in out best PSP Go games article, which means it’s about time we got a Metal Gear Solid title in here! Metal Gear Solid – Peace Walker is still one of those games that takes my breath away.

Like Link and Sonic, Solid Snake has always been one of the most iconic console mascots around.

Ok, so he’s not as cutesy as Crash or Spyro, but could either of them have survived in stealthy shootouts and or guerrilla warfare?

No… no they could not.

Hold one of the most nail-biting shooting titles ever made in the palms of your hands. From the initial cutscene to the end credits, Peace Walker is an absolute bawler of a game.

Take soldiers hostage and search them, follow Snakes movements over his shoulder Resident Evil 4-style, and don customisable outfits such as the Sneaking Suit.

If you’re sat there with a coffee wishing that Mission Impossible and Syphon Filter had a lovechild, then this would be it. I should probably warn you that playing this game may result in your marriage breaking down as you won’t want to do anything else!

Best PSP Go Games - God of War: Ghost of Sparta game case cover art

And finally, Kratos smashes into the top spot, claiming the accolade of best PSP Go game for God Of War – Ghost Of Sparta.

What’s not to love about a game steeped in Greek Mythology with lava flowing everywhere and post-apocalyptic vibes?

This is one of Kratos’ most exciting adventures and, as with all PSP games, it looks fantastic on Sony’s impressive handheld series.

Take the Blades of Athena into battles as you take on Minotaurs, Gorgons, Harpies, and many more mythical creatures.

Work through impossibly insane missions that only a divine being could tackle, searching for the Arms of Sparta and Thera’s Bane in your mission to outsmart the God of Death.

It’s always a good idea to play all the God of War games in order, but I won’t judge you if you skip straight to this one.

How Many Games Were Available For The PSP Go?

There were 807 PSP games available to download from the Playstation Store for the PSP Go.

That’s quite a lot to play through, but considering there are almost 2000 games available to play on the other PSP models, it begs the question whether the move to digital only was a good idea?

How Can I Play PSP Go Games In 2022

The PlayStation store might have closed for PSP games, but there’s still a loophole that allows players to still get downloadable content onto their PSP Go.

The PS3 and PS Vita Marketplace remain open after Sony’s U-Turn. Log into the online store and do a search for PSP games compatible with your PS3 or PS Vita, then buy the ones you want.

Once bought, hook up to WiFi with your PSP Go, log back into the online store, and then head to your downloads list. The games you bought will appear in your list available to download, allowing you to get content onto your PSP Go!
