AEW wrestler Joe Seanoa, better known as Samoa Joe, will play Sweet Tooth in the upcoming Twisted Metal TV series.
It was confirmed earlier this week that Sweet Tooth would be voiced by prolific voice actor Will Arnett, but the identity of the actor physically portraying him was unknown.
Deadline now reports that the former WWE US Champion and TNA World Heavyweight Champion will play the character, with Arnett providing his voice.
Sweet Tooth’s smiling clown face is the most iconic image in the Twisted Metal series, featuring on the cover of all 10 titles in the series to date.
If the Deadline report is accurate, the show may be making canon a long-running misconception that the actual character is called Sweet Tooth.
Sweet Tooth is actually the name of the pink polka-dotted ice cream van the character drives – the character himself is called Needles Kane, and is a deranged murderer who dresses as a clown.
Arnett, who is also serving as an executive producer on the show, is a prolific voice actor with credits including Ice Age: The Meltdown, Ratatouille, Despicable Me, The Lego Batman Movie, The Lego Movie and BoJack Horseman.
Other actors confirmed for the Twisted Metal show include Anthony Mackie (Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe), Thomas Haden Church (Sandman in Spider-Man 3), Stephanie Beatriz (Rosa Diaz in Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott in Scream).
The show, which is written and executive produced by Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai), stars Mackie as John Doe, an amnesiac who “talks as fast as he drives”, according to a statement by Peacock.
Doe has to drive across a post-apocalyptic wasteland to deliver supplies to an outpost and will be aided by car thief Quiet (Beatriz), while being pursued by patrolman Agent Stone (Church).
Peacock announced in February that it had picked up the PlayStation Productions show and given it a series order.
Twisted Metal is the second TV series from PlayStation Productions, a studio formed by Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt its original game properties for film and TV.
The first TV series is HBO’s The Last of Us, which will star Game of Thrones actors Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie.
A Twisted Metal reboot is currently in development at Sony’s Firesprite studio, according to VGC sources. The reboot was originally in development at Lucid Games, but it’s unclear why Sony decided to change course with the project.
