God of War Ragnarok Release Date Chaos Continues After Cory Barlog Comment

God of War Ragnarok is currently due to be released in 2022. Or it’s due in 2023. Quite frankly, either is possible at the moment as so many people have crawled out of the woodwork purporting to know when the game will be released that nobody knows what to believe. Of all of them, Santa Monica’s Creative Director Cory Barlog may be the most reliable, and he’s implied the God of War Ragnarok release date is still set for this year.

The God of War Ragnarok release date saga continues onwards

God of War Ragnarok has never had a specific release date, although it was originally aiming for a 2021 window. The game was then delayed and was simply noted as releasing at some point in 2022. A September 30, 2022 date was found in the PSN backend but was declared a placeholder. Last week this was moved back to a placeholder of December 31, sparking a report from GameReactor that the game had been delayed until 2023. Then Jason Schreier said it was still due for 2022 and Bloomberg claimed it is locked in for November 2022. And then God of War creator David Jaffe claimed he’d heard the 2022 release date was looking sketchy and there was a 50/50 chance it would be moved to 2023. It is this final comment that Cory Barlog is refuting, simply implying David Jaffe’s God of War Ragnarok release date delay is not something he’d heard about.

Are you lost yet? Well, so are we. So far there are two votes for 2023 and five votes for 2022, including the developer’s creative director and the official studio statement, so we’ll go with a 2022 release date for now. Either way, we’re all just hoping they actually announce a concrete release date fairly soon.

In other news, PS Plus PlayStation classic games from Bandai Namco and Capcom are not available for separate purchase. Elsewhere, Fallout 5 will be the next Bethesda game after The Elder Scrolls VI but that’s a long way off into the future. Definitely not 2022. Or 2023. In fact, we’ll certainly see God of War Ragnarok before that one.
